Belly dance

Dans als uiting van plezierBelly dance is also known as Middel Eastern Dance or Raqs Sharqi. This dance form is rooted in Arabic culture and it is an isolation dance. Body parts are moved separately and can be combined, for example by doing a hip movement complemented by graceful snake arms. Everyone can learn how to belly dance, regardless of age, size or body shape. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy yourself!

There are many different styles and variations of belly dance. For example upbeat, energetic Turkish style or the ladylike and fluent Egyptian style. A belly dancer can use several props during a performance, like a veil, sword, finger cymbals called zils, cane and even burning candles.

There are a lot of misconceptions surrounding belly dance. A famous one is ‘belly dance is for entertaining men only’. Most belly dance performances are geared towards family events like birthdays and weddings. Especially women and children enjoy dancing along with the beautiful music and Kyria loves to dance with them!
